Depart Kandy for a day trip up to the Cultural Triangle where you will be able to visit the magnificent Buddhist Dambulla cave temples and climb the 6th century rock fortress of Sigiriya, one of the eigth wonders of the world. Enroute, we will take you to a spice garden. After a full day of exploring, we will transfer you back to Kandy for a second night’s stay in this historic city. Free taxi to the airport.
After a leisurely breakfast, you will travel by vehicle north through the scenic winding Hill Country to the historic city of Kandy. The road weaves between valleys of lush tea plantations and on the way you can take a tour of a tea factory and stop to photograph the tea pluckers and scenery. On arrival in Kandy, you might like to visit the Peradeiya Botanical Gardens and the sacred Temple of the Tooth. In the evening, we will take you to experience a Kandyan dancing performance.
At 9am, depart from Ella by train to Nanu Oya Railway station, the closest stop for Nuwara Eliya, a former British Hill Station. Situated at the heart of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country, Nuwara Eliya is the island’s highest elevated town. Travelling by train through the Hill Country is the best way to appreciate the jungles, hills, villages and farmland. Your vehicle will collect you from Nanu Oya and transfer you to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya, giving you an opportunity to explore this colonial town.
At 8am depart Tissamaharama for Ella, stopping to visit waterfalls enroute. Ella is a pretty rural village set in Sri Lanka’s south eastern Hill Country. The views from its famed ‘Ella Gap’ reward with views across the island’s flat coastal plains. Activities in and around Ella include visiting waterfalls, tea estates, ancient temples and treks to viewpoints through beautiful forested hills.
At 8am, depart Unawatuna for Tissamaharama where you will spend your first night. As you journey southeast, admire Sri Lanka’s famous stilt fishermen, swathes of silky beaches and the Buddhist Veharahena temple. Tissamaharama is famed for its ancient temples, lush paddy lands and expansive reservoir, and is the launchpad for an afternoon safari into Yala National Park. Sightings of wildlife are not guaranteed, but you may spot leopards, elephants, bears, crocodiles and birds.
